ABOUT THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

LILLIAN BARBEITO has a BFA from Juilliard, where she studied on a four-year, full-tuition scholarship awarded by Tomorrow’s Leaders of America. She has had an extensive performance career that took her to Europe, New York, and then finally to Los Angeles, where she founded BODYTRAFFIC with Tina Berkett. She has taught dance internationally and is one of the 15 teachers in the world certified to teach Anouk van Dijk’s groundbreaking method called Countertechnique. Barbeito has choreographed over 50 works for high schools, universities, competitions, regional ballet companies, and professional modern dance companies throughout the US and Canada. She is currently a visiting assistant professor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

TINA FINKELMAN BERKETT grew up in New York City and trained and learned to love dance under the tutelage of Michele Cuccaro Cain. She is a graduate of Barnard College and performed with Aszure Barton & Artists throughout the US, including at Jacob’s Pillow and Spoleto Festivals. She became Aszure Barton’s assistant and taught alongside Barton both in the US and abroad. Berkett also had the incredible honor of being a founding member of Mikhail Baryshnikov’s Hell’s Kitchen Dance. In 2007, she moved to Los Angeles and founded BODYTRAFFIC with Lillian Barbeito.
